    The Writer's Room w/ Pardo - Maron, Elwood, Comers - 3/18

The Writers' Room with Jimmy Pardo

Tired of using his quick wit and legendary crowd work skills to get laughs, host Jimmy Pardo has hired a team of writers to park themselves on stage and pen material for him on the fly.

It's a formula for comedy guaranteed to devolve into merciless roasting -- either of the comic who last performed or the writer who fed Jimmy a dud!

Featuring some of the best wordsmiths in the business and sets from some of Jimmy's favorite comics in Los Angeles.

    Thursday, March 18 @ 9:30pm

agreed, this was a lot of fun.

not so much for the tight shirt kid who drove in from Indiana that night in the front row.

I havent laughed that much in a while and forgot how much fun this show was... mostly because it tends to turn into a roast of comedians.

Marc Maron rubs Joe Wagner's head like it was the lucky tree stump at the apollo.

Jimmy spots Marc Maron at the bank while driving by, and decides to repeatedly yell out "marc maron is a faggot!" from his window. Exhausted at the fact that he cannot figure out where the taunting is coming from, maron decides to flip off everyone around him.

Graham fucking around on stage, as usual.

Jarrett Grode, one of the writers editing the comedians jokes, was the most difficult to break.

“I love March Madness, it’s my favorite time of year. In fact, college basketball is like my religion… in that I’m indifferent to it.” - Josh Comers

I don't remember what's happening here, but I do like his hip hop pose.

I was a friend of the tight shirt guy. He really wasn't expecting anyone to notice or interact with him. He took it well once it was over, but he was just really flustered. On the drive home I played him episodes of Never Not Funny to help him understand what had just happened. Now he's going around telling everyone how a famous person talked to him. So he's fine.
Anyway, I hope the show goes Primo cause I'd really like to hear it again. But either way, how often do you get to hear one of your favorite comedian make fun of one of your friends? Worth the 36 hour drive right there.
    Thanks.

Didn't he leave right before Maron's set? Or did he just change seats to end the abuse? (I wouldn't blame him.)

He left right before Maron's set. I was sitting right behind him and heard him say something like "I really gotta go" I felt bad, but it was also hilarious. (what was said about him not that he felt so bad he had to leave)

Yeah, if you're not familiar with how things work at stand-up shows, I can see how that might have seemed brutal. There should be a sign somewhere warning you to not sit up front if you aren't comfortable with being verbally brutalized. I've been made fun of at the UCB a number of times. The risk of that is what makes me want to sit up front. It makes things fun if you know not to take it personally.

Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what keywords triggered this?

Yeah, he had to go to the bathroom (being late from the bathroom was what got him noticed in the first place - that and the shirt, of course) and didn't want to have to walk back through again. But afterwards he was a little too quick to say that, so I do think it had a bit to do with being embarrassed and being afraid that Maron would talk about him, too.
