Schuba's was a death march of humidity and self-sabotage, but Derek hung out through all the negativity and gave it his best shot.

Also, it is creepy how quick you guys were to shit on his set without seeing it. It's almost like you WERE a part of that Schuba's!

    Happy Birthday Joe!

    I heard things.

    Re: Chicago Open Mics

Here are the open mics that I'm aware of on the northside of Chicago, not including showcases.

    Sunday
    Schuba's

    Monday
    Globe Pub
    Gio's
Amp Rock (its status is questionable)

    Tuesday
    7-10 Lounge
    Spread
    Melnicks

    Wednesday
    Edge
    Chemically Imbalanced Comedy
    Coles

    Thursday
    Tonic Room

The ones I'm not sure about but may still be happening are Trace, O'Hagans, McDunnas, and Phyllis... Also, Town Hall and Bucktown Pub do once a month type deals...

Trace still happens as a poetry slam on Tuesday but if too many comics show up they'll probably ban us. Holiday Club at Sheridan and Irving Park has a music mic that four or five comics crash on the same night. It's a little more fun.

    Re: Chicago Open Mics

I'm in Chicago for the weekend, and rather than do my own research to find the comedy-show-to-see, I thought I'd throw it to you nerds. Actual show-shows are preferred, but I am open to mics.

Dave Attell tonight and tomorrow at the Lakeshore Theater, two shows each night, and I believe only one is sold out so far

I'm going to attempt to do Seven Ten Lounge (8-8:30 sign-up, names drawn out of a cup for order, 9pm start) then go to ChUC to see Joe Kwaczala's set.

just show up wearing your beard and you'll be fine.

    Have you been going up?

  18. #138

    Re: Chicago Open Mics

No beard, not going up because of general nervousness, just trying to feel things out this week and maybe I'll go up up next week

I have been to Schubas and Globe so far though, at least I'm getting out of the house

    Re: Chicago Open Mics

Ok so is Tonic room the open mic to got to tonight? I saw on their website that a band is playing so whats the deal?

Also, i was at Coles last, holy shit there were a lot of people there. I arrived early enough to sign up 11th(on 11/11, feeding the OCD monster) but it seems like only about 8-10 open micers went up before the showcase started.

Is this the general case? If you dont get a spot lower then lets say 10 you probably aren't going to get to perform? I ask because I amped myself up pretty good to perform in front of that many people then was left feeling confused?

Thanks again for all your help an suggestions guys and nice to meet Kevin Lee face to face the other night at 7/10

Tonic Room is 7:30 sign up tonight, 8:00 start. I will be hosting tonight, running a TIGHT ship so that we're done before 10 when the band is slated to go on.
