Favorite Comedy in Chicago in 2008

dumb thread? meh... I'm wasting time.

I'll limit myself to 5 from stand up and 5 from improv... with special allowances for my favorites of 2008 (until they left):

    TEAM SUBMARINE!

    Stand-up:
    1. Prescott Tolk
    2. Kyle Kinane
    3. Hannibal
    4. C.J. Toledano
    5. Brendan McGowan

    Improv:
    1. Pat O’Brien (esp. for Shatter and Mislead)
    2. The Reckoning
    3. Scott Adsit
    4. T. J. Jagodowski
    5. Shotgun

I'm not from Chicago so I can't add anything here, I just wanna chime in and say that Kyle Kinane and Hannibal Burress are awesome. I've only seen a few clips of each on Youtube but I loved em both.

Kyle, Hannibal, and Scott also moved away (Kyle and Scott 5+ years ago).

    I vote for cake.

    Who besides Adsit and Kinane?

I know those two are no longer here... but if I had multiple opportunities to see them, I included them.

I just edited my post for informative purposes.

I guess you wouldn't know Hannibal's left because of all the shows he's been doing here. He's still back at ChUC about once a month.

I have two. Mike Sheehan and some dude at the Wise Fools that kept saying "sweet" over and over.

    Whoa, thanks, J.B.!

Man, I shouldn't be doing this because I could honestly name off 20 comedians right off the bat but here's who I've enjoyed...Some of these guys left but spent at least 4-6 months here in 2008.

    Stand-up:
    1. Mike Sheehan
    2. Team Submarine
    3. Jared Logan
    4. Brady Novak
    5. Brendan McGowan

    Improv:
    1. T.J. Jagadowski
    2. Tim Baltz
    3. Pat O'Brien
    4. Mark Raterman
    5. Armando Diaz experience (it's like church for me and my friend)

The level of talent that has left in the last year and a half is pretty ridiculous. Now is a very good time to move if you suck, because everyone will remember you as a member of an amazing "graduating class".

So you feel a shift happening? Is it that everyone is moving to NYC or LA? Hmmm. I wonder how long it takes for the pendulum to swing back.

Re: Favorite Comedy in Chicago in 2008

I think the last shift of comics moving away was 8-16 months ago. The current talent here isn't getting as much attention as our recent "alumni" because of the sheer volume of talent that moved away back then.

It'll be at least 2-3 years before another group that big leaves town again. Such is the pattern. No big shift happening right now, though I'm sure a smattering of people will move away soon. Talent doesn't swing back into Chicago so much because there's no industry here. Folks arrive green, percolate, and graduate. More people will be leaving than arriving, always.

Luckily our home town heroes like to come back and visit a lot.
