    SF open mics

    hey bay area!

I'm going to be in Marin County during the holidays and I wanted to go to some open mics. I've looked at this website http://www.sfstandup.com/stagetime/ and that is a crapload of options, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend specific open mics that they prefer. I'm just starting out (terrible) and would like to get up as often as possible.

    Thanks in advance

If you're brand new, your best options are probably:

    Mondays, Bliss Bar

Tuesdays, Annie's Social Club - this venue closes after the New Year, but you can get up before then. E-mail annies@sfstandup.com the Monday of the week you'd like to get up. Also, Rockit Room will probably be a solid option if you can't get up at Annie's one week.

Wednesdays, Pier 23 - you can almost certainly get on the open mic at the end of the show; just go and say hello to the host when they get there and put your name on the list.

Thursdays, Brainwash - try to be there when signup starts at 6:30, the list is known to get LONG.

Fridays - You could do the Pirate Cat Radio mic, 10pm at 21st and Florida. Not known for having huge crowds, but the station does get listeners.

Saturday - You can TRY to connect with the person who sets up the Our Small Theater, Sia Amma. She's not known for being great at returning e-mails, though, so your other option is to stop by on a Saturday night, introduce yourself and see if you can't get on. She's often a little short on performers, so it can't hurt. Plus, it's really close to Union Square, so if you're already downtown doing some X-mas shopping - or whatever else - you can just stop by and see about killing two birds with one stone.

Sunday - Punchline. You probably won't get up, because it takes a lot of time. But you will get to see some really talented local comics do their thing.

    Hope that helps!

If you have a car, Tommy T's in Pleasanton is also a decent option on Mondays. I would also try to get there on the early side; they tend to have a pretty full list. I hear they've also been having solid crowds for the holidays.

    Glad it helped!

Hey dudes, I am going to be up there next weekend. Any new recommendations? Also was considering contacting people about booked shows.

Really nothing new, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to get in touch with the crew at Castagnola's - give them some links to videos and your website (if you have one) and mention that you're only in town for a few days. It's at their discretion, of course, but they're nice people and it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.
