"Flight of the Conchords" TV Series Officially Done

Over at their official website, Flight of the Conchords have announced that their HBO series will not return for a third season. Bret McKenzie, Jemaine Clement and co-creator/director James Bobin said “we’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist."

Wow. I was just talking with someone about whether or not the show would be back...

I wonder whats next for the guys. I guess writing that much music and comedy was too much. I appreciate they seem to have gotten out at the top in terms of quality...

Who knows. I saw them at Bonnaroo a few years ago, along with David Cross and Demetri Martin. They were great. This was right before the show came out, I think.

Hopefully a tour is in the works, at least.

Yeah, hopefully they'll stop making great layered, listenable funny songs and go back to making acoustic funny songs. There really aren't many people doing that right now.

I think there is value to both sides. I loved FotC for a couple of years before they made it big, and I still LOVE listening to early recordings of Hiphopapotomus and Pretty Prince of Parties, but at the same time I love the show soundtrack.

I just hope that they stay working with Kristen, Arj, and Eugene. Particularly Arj, since his chemistry with them is GREAT.

Glad that's settled. Really happy they stuck to their guns on this one. The two seasons they did were great and the way the second one ended was nice and definite. HBO wanted to fuck that up by making a God awful third season that would be running on empty just to keep a successful (Emmy-nominated) franchise going. They quit while they were ahead and that's admirable.

And all of you who have been saying they should go back to funny, acoustic songs baffle me because although they're older work was amazing, %70 of comedy nowadays is acoustic guitar based, don't you think? Excuse them for branching out.

I remember hearing talk about a movie but I think that's an awful idea. I definitely think this is the right choice, but I am sad to see them go.

Seriously, though, I thought the show ended on a high note and am glad it's going out strong. I'll just get back to cutting onions. I'm making a lasagna ... for one.
