It was back in March that we first heard about David Cross writing and starring in a TV pilot for Britain's Channel 4, and now the pilot is set to air in the UK as part of C4's "Comedy Showcase" series. Airing on Friday, November 27th, the pilot stars Cross as a US executive who finds himself out of his depth when he is mistakenly sent to run his company's UK arm. All he has to do is sell a dozen container loads of dodgy Korean energy drink before his psychotic boss visits him in a week. Simple, apart from the fact that he knows nothing about British culture and nothing about sales. He also only has one employee to assist him, Dave, who is perhaps the most wilfully unhelpful employee ever. Todd's life is further complicated when he lies continuously to cover his ignorance and spectacularly fails to impress beautiful cafe owner Alice.
The pilot costars Sharon Horgan ("Pulling"), Will Arnett, Spike Jonze, and Matt King ("Peep Show"). It was written by Cross and British comedy writer Shaun Pye ("Monkey Dust"). Although not every pilot that is ordered by C4 for their Comedy Showcase series ends up becoming a full series, some of them do, so it's quite possible that if the pilot is received well, Cross could end up making more episodes.
As for when the program will air in the US, there are no plans for a US airing at this time. However, there are several Bittorrent sites that specialize in UK television programs, like UKNova and TheBox.bz. (Editorial note: While UKNova is harder to sign up for, the people who run it are a lot nicer than the ones who run TheBox.bz). The Usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.multimedia is also a good place to look for British TV series. Hopefully the pilot should be available online at one of these places soon after its UK airing. Keep your fingers crossed! (no pun intended).
