"The Goode Family", a new animated series from Mike Judge, premieres tonight at 9 PM on ABC. The series, executive produced by Judge and his "King of the Hill" collaborators John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, seems to be the polar opposite of that long-running FOX series. Instead of dealing with a typical "red state", conservative Southern family, the series will set its sights on a family of environmentally conscious, liberal "blue state"-rs who always strive to do the politically correct thing. The Goodes, who live their life by the motto "What Would Al Gore Do?", include head of the household Gerald (voiced by Judge, in a voice similar to his hippie teacher character from "Beavis and Butthead"), a college administrator and bicycling enthusiast; his wife, Helen (voiced by ex-SNLer Nancy Carell, nee' Walls), a community activist; their daughter Bliss (voiced by "Freaks and Geeks" star Linda Cardellini); and their adopted son, Ubuntu, a white South African boy who the Goodes adopted by mistake while trying to adopt an "African" child. The family is rounded out by the family dog, Che, who is vegan (although privately, he is decimating every stray animal in the neighborhood out of extreme hunger). The series is sure to include some of the same culture-clash humor that typified "All in the Family" back in the '70s, with the introduction of Brian Doyle Murray as Charlie, Helen's father, the voice of political incorrectness in the show who will tangle with the Goodes and their more-liberal-than-thou attitudes.
The series will run for 6 episodes over the summer. Although 7 additional scripts were ordered in October of 2008, it looks like ABC is waiting to see how the show does in the ratings before making a decision on when (or if) those remaining episodes will air.

There have been many attempts by other networks since then to copy its success, but only "King of the Hill", "Futurama", "Family Guy" and "American Dad" managed to endure beyond one season.
