I totally agree. Obviously it's not always a pleasurable watching experience for a comedy nerd, but for me, Doug Benson's Lavell Crawford impression alone made up for all of the painful moments.

I dunno I mean ya you're going to probably draw from both spectrums, and you're probably going to end up helping some hack comics but everyone who's on gets that on their resume and their tag and that still means something I've gotta imagine. It's not like we've been able to avoid all the shitty comic's that succeed without lcs... just means more exposure to comedy in general and help to the comics specifically.
    I'm sorry ... not sorry.

I am considering going to this just as a "why not" type of thing, but I'm assuming I will have to like, wait in line all night or something?

Some nerdy and probably unwarranted speculation: James Adomian just became "Facebook Friends" with Last Comic Standing. It would be great to see him on the show.

EDIT: As those auditions haven't even started this is probably way premature. I wonder though if every contestant must audition or if any are just hand-picked?

On the newest Comedy And Everything Else it's mentioned that Greg Giraldo, Andy Kindler, and Natasha Leggero will be judges this season.

    Natasha Leggero? Kinda weird...

Hope they have more input than Drew Carey and Brett Butler did.

You do? Weren't they the ones that walked off the show because it was fixed?

That was kinda the point of my statement. Are they there just to be witty on the show or are they there to help select the finalists? I'd watch Giraldo read the phone book, but I hope they know what they're getting into.

The explanation Carey and Butler got was that the producers and other off-screen people also had input into the selections. While that sated their initial objection that their votes didn't match the results, it still was apparent that they were minority shareholders who would only get their way if their picks coincided with the larger offscreen contingent. Otherwise they'd be quietly outvoted. The offscreen people were more about assembling a cast of personalities, not necessarily picking the funniest people. (Dan Naturman, in particular, got hosed by the voting charade.)

So yeah...that's a long-winded way of saying it was rigged.

Re: NBC in talks to bring back "Last Comic Standing"

I heard through the grapevine (I was sitting at a table next to Last Comic Standing producers) that this season's format is going to be different. There isn't going to be a house, there aren't going to be inane challenges - it's just going to be stand-up. The man she was explaining it to thought that was a mistake because "nobody wants to watch just stand up."

Kindler's involved?!?!?! Great, now I'm going to have to sit (read fast-forward) through this crap. Thanks to Tivo, I was able to just get through the Doug Benson season (where there would always be cutaways to every other contestant looking worried and then, consistently, a shot of Doug not giving a shit; that made it worth it).

Re: NBC in talks to bring back "Last Comic Standing"

Can't we just give this show the benefit of the doubt? The fact that Kindler's on board could signal a real shift in tone. I'm excited, especially after hearing firsthand about someone I know to be funny making it to the semis (ooh... juicy gossip!). True, NBC is in the comedy fan doghouse because of the Conan fiasco, but let's not forget that frickin' Zach Galifianakis just hosted SNL.

Re: NBC in talks to bring back "Last Comic Standing"

Wait...someone you know to be funny has made the semifinals of LCS 7...ALREADY?

I know someone who just had their audition to even make it onto the show...and someone is already in the semifinals?

Or did you mean in a previous year? Or do you mean something else when you say "semi-finals"...like maybe a stage of the audition process?

pg--was on Last Comic Standing...no really...I still have a bump on my head to prove it!--seattle

We'll just take the fact that this was too long and that you didn't read it...as read.
