Thread: Zach Galifianakis to (possibly) host SNL on March 6th

Zach Galifianakis to (possibly) host SNL on March 6th

Although it hasn't been confirmed by NBC yet, according to Zach Galifianakis's Twitter account , he is scheduled to host the show on March 6. According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC would neither confirm nor deny a hosting schedule this far in advance when asked about the booking, and a rep for Galifianakis claimed that the Twitter feed isn’t official, even though it’s linked from his website and mentioned in his newsletter. So until we get official confirmation, let's all hope it's true, and that the writers prepare some nicely meta material for Zach to do on the show (maybe in the vein of the Garry Shandling episode from 1987 where Garry stopped sketches in the middle of them to break character and comment on the sketches).

If they can't make a good show with Zach then there is really no hope.

    Exciting!

I do, but why is NBC being so coy about releasing the information? What's the worst thing that would happen if they said "Yes, he is scheduled to host on March 6th". What is this, CIA military secrets? The age when we had to wait for an official press release about something is long gone.

NBC just doesn't like to commit

    Let's see, wish list.

a bunch of 1 minute characters, The Pretentious Illiterate, the Effeminate Gay Basher, etc.

Yes, a sketch designed to make fun of how lame SNL is, maybe about the keebler elves' gay bachelor party, Zach derails it.

Also I want Zach to yell at Lorne Michaels maybe during a Between Two Ferns?

If anyone needs me I'll be spending the next month scribing my speculations on what EXACTLY Zach will do on SNL. Stay tuned for my manuscript... I'm going to put Nostradamus to shame!

Maybe Jay Leno will want to host.

I can't see zach staying within the bland structure of the show. I think he'll look to fight the system. Hopefully, the writers will feel motivated to push more "10 to 1" sketches throughout the whole hour and 1/2. I imagine forte and armisen will play well with him.
Also, I think zach hosting snl marks a kind of milestone for, lack of a better term, "alternative" comedy in the u.s.

    edit: jon glaser next..?

Maybe if Jon Glaser stars in the number one comedy of the year he can also get a chance to host. When I first heard about Zach hosting, I wasn't shocked that he was picked... because he obviously has stepped into the public spotlight. felt like either he wouldn't be for it or SNL would just be turned off by him. I mean we are diehard Zach fans but for someone not familiar with his stuff they might watch something like Live at the Purple onion and be like wait... what, where's the baby and tiger from hangover?

SNL let Tom Green turn the show into his own playground... of course the results were a disaster and SNL knows it. I just hope SNL won't be apprehensive about letting Zach run wild with the zany off the wall sketches. Zach will push for them definitely, and perhaps because he knows Fred and Will, he might be able to get this through. Either way I can't remember the last time I was really excited for an SNL episode.

yeah, I think you're right. It makes total sense that he could host the show now given his recent success. I guess I mean, the snl gig is a good time to reflect on the attention good comedians are getting lately. Zach could open the flood gates for other like minded comedians to become successful, thus hosting snl.

I guess everyone is already desensitized to his success at this point, but I do think his snl appearance marks an important event for comedians.

This would be a great birthday present for me. I've stopped watching SNL, but I'll watch this one.

A disaster in terms of ratings/reviews or the actual content? I'm a decent-sized fan of Tom Green and I've yet to see this episode.

Didn't that episode have Lorne and Tom in a tub? I recall that being very funny. It also had Tom dressed as a bird who lost his egg in the audience. I was about to say that was not funny but now that I think of it, it kind of was so stupid it was funny. Plus the whole fake marriage with Drew Barrymore in which she bails on him was good.

My post was originally to say that I thought the Tom green episode wasn't that great, but the more I remember it, I think it kind of was.
